Unknown to many, 2024 is a year to sigh in curiosity. Schools across the country will graduate this year the first batches of Covid entrants, i.e. those students who first enrolled in 2020, the year that the Covid pandemic struck the planet. Those who will graduate college this year entered as first year students four years ago. Those who will graduate this year in the law school or graduate school (doctoral) entered as freshmen four years ago. Those who graduated this year in SHS Grade 12 entered as junior high school (Grade 8) four years ago. These are the Covid entrants in 2020; they are also the Covid graduates in 2024. What is common among them?

UM Responds to AI

The University of Mindanao recently drafted a policy document to guide all its stakeholders on how to deal with artificial intelligence (AI), specifically on how higher educational institutions need to prepare for such emerging technology. The document, entitled, Treatise on the Use of Artificial Intelligence and Other Online Programs in the University of Mindanao, aims to prepare the university in the use, utilization, and exploitation of AI technology and other online programs with the end goal of optimizing the technological benefits without sacrificing academic integrity.

UM-CTE's Engagement at SEAMEO's SEA-TEACHER Project Meetings in Chiang Rai, Thailand

The University of Mindanao-College of Teacher Education (UM-CTE) participated in the 9th Evaluation Meeting and 10th Coordination Meeting for the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher Project) last June 21-22, 2024 in Chiang Rai, Thailand. The 9th evaluation meeting culminated in the 9th batch implementation of the SEA-Teacher Project.

DREAM-Ph: Enhancing Road Safety through Advanced Technologies and Analytics

Nowadays, the advent rise of technology is unstoppable, and the need to integrate this into safety should be the top priority. Focusing on Disaster Risk Reduction, a team from the University of Mindanao, led by Engr. John A. Bacus is spearheading a DOST-funded project aimed at revolutionizing road maintenance. This collaborative effort with the Department of Public Works and Highways District Engineering Office (DPWH DCDEO) focuses on utilizing advanced geospatial technology to address the problem of road potholes in Davao City.

UM Appointed at MinDA Board

The University of Mindanao, through the President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Guillermo P. Torres, Jr., has been appointed by the President of the Republic of the Philippines, through the Executive Secretary, Hon. Lucas P. Bersamin, as a Member of the Board of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa) for a term of duty of six years, from 2024-2030.

The webinar entitled “EDUCATION NEXUS: EMBRACING GLOBAL EVOLUTION of PEDAGOGY” was hosted by the ILUSSTRADO organization last June 11, 2024.
