What if We Could Engineer a Better Future?

The University of Mindanao had the honor of hosting Dr. Angelo Bañares once again for his second engagement under the Balik Scientist Program (BSP). Held at the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) Workshop Area, Dr. Bañares delivered a talk entitled “Emerging Research and Innovations in Metabolic Engineering.”

The event drew the enthusiastic participation of Biology students and faculty members, who eagerly listened to Dr. Bañares’ comprehensive discussion on the latest breakthroughs in metabolic engineering—from novel biotechnological approaches to sustainable applications in energy, environment, and health sectors.

Following the lecture, an engaging open forum provided attendees with the opportunity to raise questions, clarify concepts, and explore research possibilities with Dr. Bañares. The dynamic Q&A session reflected the audience's deep interest and curiosity, making the event informative and interactive.
Further, Dr. Bañares' engagement supports the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 Quality Education, SDG 9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, SDG 13 Climate Action, and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals.

This activity contributes meaningfully to the goals of the Balik Scientist Program, which aims to: (1) Strengthen the scientific and technological human resources of the country. (2) Accelerate the flow of technologies that are vital to national development. (3) Promote collaboration between Filipino scientists abroad and local institutions.
