Walking Together: University of Mindanao – College of Teacher Education at Angels Walk for Autism 2024

The University of Mindanao's College of Teacher Education (CTE) walked for a cause at Angels Walk for Autism 2024

University of Mindanao – College of Teacher Education have once again exemplified the spirit of community involvement by participating the Angels Walk for Autism 2024 last April 21 held at SM City Annex Activity Ground.

College of Teacher Education, represented by students from various programs like Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECED) stepped up in full force to make a difference to this annual event, dedicated to raise awareness and support for individuals on the spectrum.

Students from BSNED, BEED, and BECED programs joined forces to raise awareness and support for individuals on the autism spectrum.

Angels Walk for Autism 2024, spearheaded by Autism Society Philippines (ASP) Davao brought together individuals, families, and organizations to celebrate and promote understanding with social acceptance of autism. Different performances prepared by delegates graced the center stage equally presenting that their disability won’t limit their ability from singing to dancing and playing musical instruments.

University of Mindanao – College of Teacher Education eagerly embraced this opportunity to showcase their commitment to inclusivity and diversity wherein each students left the venue with a sense of fulfillment, knowing that their contributions have made a meaningful impact in raising awareness and support for individuals with autism.

UM-CTE’s participation in this event serves as a testament to the power of collective action and the profound difference that can be made when individuals come together to support a common cause.

In joining this cause, I guess as a Bachelor of Special Needs major I have not only demonstrated my unwavering advocacy in promoting inclusivity but also it reminded me again – as always that I should be an ambassador of change in our community.”

Jhaira Cres Fernandez, a 4th year BSNED student said after attending the event.

By engaging with individuals on the autism spectrum and their families, students gained insights into the unique perspectives and challenges faced by this community. These interactions fostered empathy, compassion, and a deeper understanding of the importance of inclusivity.
