Visiting Professorship Expands UM Global Engagement

Davao City, Philippines Reinforcing its commitment to internationalization, the University of Mindanao formally conferred a visiting professorship to Lusia Sulastri, a faculty member from Universitas Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya, during a ceremonial event held at the University. The conferment marks another milestone in UM’s ongoing efforts to expand its global academic engagements and foster meaningful international collaborations.

Dr. Sulastri joins the UM academic community as part of the third batch of inbound faculty from UBJ, further strengthening the growing partnership between the two institutions. She has been officially seconded to the College of Criminal Justice Education, where she will serve as a visiting professor for the duration of the semester—bringing with her international perspectives and academic expertise that will enrich instruction, research, and scholarly engagement within the University.

The conferment ceremony was led by Guillermo P. Torres Jr., President and CEO of UM, together with key academic officials. Beyond formally welcoming the visiting scholar, the event also served as a platform to reaffirm the University’s expanding global footprint and its sustained efforts to foster cross-border academic collaboration, faculty mobility, and knowledge exchange.

Through initiatives such as this, UM continues to create opportunities that enhance the academic experience of its students and faculty while strengthening its position in the international academic community.

This initiative supports the Sustainable Development Goal 4 - Quality Education by promoting internationally enriched learning environments, and Sustainable Development Goal 17 - Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening academic collaboration across borders. By engaging global scholars, UM reinforces its role as a dynamic institution committed to excellence, innovation, and international cooperation.
