Unbound: UM Students Bound for Indonesia for UMAP Discovery Camp 2024

Three UM College of Arts and Sciences Education students – Irene Charr Lapiña, Russell Jay Amoroso, and Kyra Joy Malda – embarked on a global learning adventure!
Three students from the College of Arts and Sciences Education at the University of Mindanao embarked on a journey to Indonesia to participate in the two-week UMAP Discovery Camp 2024, spanning Surabaya (East Java), Semarang (Central Java), Riau (Sumatra), and Makassar (South Sulawesi).
Hosted by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Semarang, Universitas Islam Riau, and Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis Nobel Indonesia, the program aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and equip them with essential skills for successful implementation.
The student representatives, Irene Charr Lapiña, Russell Jay Amoroso, and Kyra Joy Malda, are all members of UM’s official school publication, PRIMUM. The two-week program allowed them to partake in activities such as a discussion regarding the implementation of SDGs held at the host university in Surabaya, along with programs for Smart People, Smart Economy, Smart Living, and Smart Environment. The students also participated in campus and city tours that exhibited how the cities and their schools contribute to and implement the SDGs. Moreover, they were allowed to impart valuable insights about the SDGs during their campus visits to SMA Negeri 10 Surabaya, SMA Negeri 15 Surabaya, and SMAS Katolik Karitas III.
Through this initiative, the University again demonstrates its commitment to excellence with a global perspective, fostering international connections and expanding student opportunities.
