UMDS Shines at Asian English Olympics, Wins 3 Best Speaker Awards

The University of Mindanao Debate Society (UMDS) representatives, Ma. Veronica Silayan (IV- Legal Management) and Ian Angelo Sarto (II- Political Science), achieved remarkable success by securing three awards at the Asian English Olympics debate competition held at BINUS University in Indonesia.

UMDS's success was further bolstered by the commendable performance of their adviser and team coach, Candice Faye Kristen Lleses, who was honored as both a breaking adjudicator and semifinal adjudicator, showcasing her exceptional expertise and leadership. Additionally, the team's impressive 4th place finish in the open breaks category of the debate propelled them to the semifinal round, underscoring their formidable skills and competitive spirit.

The annual Asian English Olympics, organized by the Bina Nusantara English Club, drew hundreds of students from across Asia, competing in a diverse range of fields including debate, speech, radio drama, short story writing, newscasting, storytelling, spelling bee, and scrabble. UMDS's exceptional performance in this prestigious international competition exemplifies the university's commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to nurturing the talents of its students on a global stage.
