UM Staff and Students Strengthen Civic Engagement
In a collective act of compassion and public service, students, faculty, and staff of the University of Mindanao gathered at the Professional Schools (PS) Lobby for a Mobile Blood Donation Drive held on May 13, 2025.
Spearheaded by the UM Administrative Employees Association (UMAEA), the event was conducted in partnership with the Department of Health Region XI and the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) Blood Donation Services.

Participants from various colleges and departments joined the drive, with volunteer donors contributing blood to support patients in need, such as those undergoing surgery, cancer treatment, or facing medical emergencies.
The activity aimed not only to supplement local hospital blood reserves but also to foster a culture of volunteerism, civic responsibility, and health awareness within the university community.

This initiative supports SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being, by ensuring access to safe blood and promoting community-based healthcare efforts. It reflects UM’s ongoing commitment to supporting public health through collaborative, student-centered outreach programs.
Through its partnership with DOH Region XI and SPMC, UM underscores the vital role of higher education institutions in community health advocacy. Plans are underway to make the blood drive a regular component of UM’s outreach calendar, further strengthening its impact on both local healthcare systems and community engagement.
