UM Honors Leading Researchers Championing SDG Best Practices for Action 2025

In celebration of its 79th founding anniversary, the University of Mindanao brought together faculty members, academic leaders, and innovators for a special competition titled “Sustainability Shapers: UM’s SDG Best Practices in Action 2025,” held at AVR 2, GET Building, last July 22, 2025.

The event, spearheaded by the External Relations and International Affairs Office (ERIAO), in collaboration with the Quality Management Office (QMO), highlighted the university’s growing commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by honoring groundbreaking projects from across its colleges and branches. These initiatives demonstrated how UMians are creatively addressing global and local challenges through sustainable, community-centered solutions.

The competition also served as a platform for collaboration, as attendees explored ways to replicate and scale successful practices across UM campuses and within surrounding communities. By engaging with pressing social and environmental issues, participants reinforced the university’s role not only as an academic institution but as an active contributor to regional, national, and international development goals.
The celebration not only commemorated the university’s long-standing history but also reinforced its forward-looking vision, empowering students and faculty to become active contributors to sustainable development and global progress.
