UM Expands Global Ties Through Outbound and Inbound Student Exchanges

Davao City, Philippines – The University of Mindanao (UM) continues to strengthen its international presence as it celebrates two major milestones in academic exchange: sending students abroad through the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) Program, and welcoming international students from partner universities.

These two Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering students are embarking on a semester-long exchange at the prestigious Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia. Known for its excellence in science, engineering, and vocational education, ITS offers them an enriching academic and cultural experience.

While UM has previously sent students and faculty for short-term cultural and academic engagements at ITS, this marks the first time the university is sending students for a full semester of study. Andre and Reygian are among five Engineering students chosen this year under the government-funded AIMS Program, and the only representatives from the Computer Engineering program this semester.

At the same time, UM proudly welcomes four inbound students from its international partner institutions: Tata and Fathan from Universitas Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya (Indonesia), and Yuiko and Ririka from Kainan University (Taiwan). These students have officially begun their academic journey at UM, joining a vibrant, diverse community while embracing cross-cultural experiences that bridge nations.

This dual milestone reflects UM’s strong commitment to SDG 4: Quality Education, broadening access to quality international education, SDG 16: Peace & Justice Strong Institutions, fostering inclusivity and mutual understanding across cultures, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthening international academic linkages.

As UM expands its network of global partnerships, these exchanges stand as powerful reminders of the transformative impact of education and collaboration. Each student is part of a growing movement that champions learning beyond borders.
