UM Enhances Student Support Systems Through Counseling Workshop
Students from the Psychology program and other academic disciplines participated in the Peer Facilitation and Basic Counseling Workshop held on May 6, 2025, at AVR 2, GET Building, University of Mindanao Matina Campus. The event aimed to enhance students' peer support skills and promote mental health awareness on campus.
Madeszon Famador, President of the University of Mindanao Peer Facilitators Organization (UMPFO), delivered the opening remarks and led an interactive icebreaker activity that engaged the audience. He emphasized the importance of the workshop in building students’ confidence and fostering a sense of empowerment among peers.

Silvino P. Josol Jr., RPsy, Head of the Guidance Services and Testing Center (GSTC), facilitated the key session of the workshop. He discussed peer support strategies and psychological first aid, encouraging students to take an active role in supporting their fellow students.
Workshop sessions covered essential topics on basic counseling techniques and psychological first aid, followed by an open forum where participants were able to engage in meaningful dialogue and ask questions.

An award ceremony was held to recognize the contributions of the guest speaker and support staff. UMPFO Co-Coordinator Lea Banga delivered the closing remarks, expressing appreciation to all who participated and supported the success of the workshop.
This initiative reflects the University of Mindanao’s commitment to SDG 4 - Quality Education, by equipping students with life skills that promote inclusive and supportive learning environments, key components of holistic and future-ready education.
