Davao City, Philippines – The University of Mindanao delegation participated in the QS Higher Education Summit: Asia-Pacific 2025, held last November 4 to 6 at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea.
The UM team, composed of President and CEO Guillermo P. Torres, Vice President for External Relations and International Affairs Dr. Reynaldo Castro, and Quality Assurance Manager Rochelle Asuncion, is joining the official Philippine delegation organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), led by Commissioner Michelle Ong. The entire delegation is engaging with top global education leaders at the summit. This high-level attendance is centered on the theme: “Advancing Generational Potential: Skills and Partnerships in the Asia Pacific,” serving as the critical platform for UM to forge strategic international linkages and benchmark its educational framework.

The summit provides a platform for the UM officials to strengthen linkages with universities across the Asia Pacific region, exchanging best practices on enhancing student employability, promoting sustainable development goals, and adapting curricula to meet the demands of the future workforce.
President and CEO Guillermo P. Torres emphasized the focus on collaboration: “Our primary mission remains advancing generational potential in Mindanao and beyond. This strategic focus on quality and global benchmarking has yielded measurable results: The University of Mindanao confirmed its debut placement in the prestigious QS Asia University Rankings 2026 in the 1301-1400 bracket. This debut, which was released on Day 1 of the Summit, validates the university’s unwavering focus on quality instruction, research output, and internationalization efforts. Securing a position in this highly competitive regional ranking serves as early evidence of UM's commitment to global standards.
Vice President Dr. Reynaldo Castro added, “Our engagement at this high-level forum ensures that UM’s internationalization initiatives are not just meeting regional standards, but are actively contributing to the shared global objective of cultivating future-ready graduates.”
