The University of Mindanao-College of Teacher Education (UM-CTE) and the Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang (UMP) have always been partners in providing invaluable opportunities to Filipino and Indonesian student teachers for professional and personal development through International Internship and Cultural Exchange Programs. In 2019, the two universities facilitated inbound and outbound students who participated in the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher) Program. This year, UMP warmly welcomed three interns from UM-CTE. Justine Anne Miralles and Vanessa Antao, Science major students under the Bachelor of Secondary Education program, were deployed in Ignatius Global School Palembang and SMAN Sumatera Selatan, respectively. Similarly, Viness Pearl Kristina Acosto, an English major student, was deployed to the latter school with Vanessa. The deployment plan set out by both universities consisted of classroom observations, teaching demonstrations, and cultural tours.

The UM-CTE is in a continuous quest to provide its students with opportunities on a global scale. In the recent academic year, the college has sent out students to participate in various international programs that promote collaboration and understanding among student teachers from different cultural backgrounds by giving them the opportunity to obtain real-world teaching experience in a variety of cultural settings.

The International Internship and Cultural Exchange Program commenced last April 27, 2024, and will culminate on May 27, 2024, with a 30-day extensive exposure and immersion for the interns.

The UM-CTE is looking forward to reciprocating the cordial reception extended to the UM’s outbound students. This coming school year, the college is excited to receive the inbound students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang who will be participating in the same program. More importantly, the UM-CTE is in an ongoing pursuit of building more relationships with universities abroad for student teacher deployment.
