UM Welcomes Delegates from Partner University in Thailand for Academic Collaboration Meeting
The University of Mindanao welcomed five delegates yesterday from the Faculty of Engineering of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), one of UM’s long-time partners in Thailand.
The delegates consisted of lecturers from the Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Chemical Engineering programs, as well as the International Program Coordinator from the International Center for Engineering.

The meeting between the two institutions was led by Dr. Reynaldo Castro, VP for External Relations and International Affairs Office, and Dr. Charlito Cañesares, Dean of the College of Engineering Education. Mr. Randy Angelia, CEE Assistant Dean, and the Program Heads of CEE’s six programs were also present during the meeting.
The two parties had a productive discussion on possible areas of collaboration beyond faculty and staff exchanges, including internships, research conferences, international academic field trips for undergraduate students, and research collaborations with external grants for faculty members.

After the meeting, the visitors were given a tour of UM’s engineering laboratories, which are dedicated to training and research. They also met with UM students who have participated in short-term and long-term exchanges at KMUTT since 2023, as well as incoming outbound students heading to KMUTT next semester.

UM and KMUTT began their partnership when UM sent students to KMUTT for a student exchange program under AIMS in 2014. Since then, the two institutions have fostered strong academic relations through student and faculty mobility.
Currently, UM has two Computer Engineering majors studying at KMUTT for a student exchange semester, with their studies set to conclude this December.
