UM Bags 2023 Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office
UM-ITSO helps in promoting the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals Nos. 9 and 17

The University of Mindanao bags 2023 Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). The Platinum Award is the Highest Category Award given to an Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO). The ITSO program seeks to foster creation of intellectual property (IP) in the academe and research sectors, particularly in invention and utility models, to increase the national innovative output and to push the presence of Filipino inventions in the international patent system.
The University of Mindanao is represented by its ITSO Manager Engr. Francis Louise Yap attended this yearโs ITSO Presidentโs Summit, on 18 March 2024, at Dusit Hotel, Makati with the theme, โ๐๐๐๐: ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ, ๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ, ๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ต๐ช๐ท๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ท๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ.โ
A keynote message was given by Atty. Rowel S. Barba, Director General of IPOPHL and Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo, Assistant Secretary for Technology Transfer, Communication and Commercialization of the Department of Science and Technology. The event also featured ITSO updates on new incentives and revised clustering, including a talk on ITSO best practices.
The Presidentsโ Summit also celebrated and recognized achievements by member ITSOs fulfilling the 2023 ITSO 2.0 Clustering deliverables, wherein the University of Mindanao Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) was given a distinctionโthe Platinum Awardโfor its exemplary implementation of:

This award is a testament to the Universityโs dedication to upholding the importance of intellectual property protection and technology transfer for the benefit of the inventor. Further, the outputs in the ITSO are geared toward responding to the UN-SDG Nos. 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
