Davao City, Philippines - The University of Mindanao and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines have officially sealed their partnership for the BS Electrical Engineering internship program through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held yesterday at the university.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Eugenio S. Guhao Jr., Chief Academic Officer; Dr. Reynaldo C. Castro, Vice President for External Relations and International Affairs; Engr. Charlito Cañesares, Dean of the College of Engineering Education (CEE), and Engr. Nicanor Fabracuer, Program Head of the BS Electrical Engineering. Representing NGCP were Mr. Junmar M. Biñas, Regional HR Manager; Ms. Farrah Mae C. Abella, Regional HR Senior Associate; and Ms. Pauline Christy E. Paduganan, Regional HR Associate.

In their messages, both Dr. Guhao and Mr. Biñas emphasized the importance of fostering strong industry-academe linkages in preparing students for real-world challenges and enhancing their professional competencies. While the agreement currently focuses on student internship opportunities, both parties expressed interest in expanding collaboration to include faculty immersion programs, career and job fairs, educational field visits, and other future academic engagements.
Following the MOA signing, NGCP guests were given a brief tour of UM’s state-of-the-art engineering laboratories, showcasing the university’s commitment to providing hands-on, technology-driven education.

NGCP is a privately owned corporation responsible for operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s state-owned power grid—an interconnected system that transmits gigawatts of electricity across regions. NGCP fulfills its mandate as the national transmission service provider with full adherence to regulatory standards and laws governing the country’s power transmission operations.
This partnership marks another milestone in UM’s continuing efforts to bridge academia and industry, ensuring that its engineering students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and exposure needed to thrive in the power and energy sector.
