Join the Green Revolution: UM Alumni lead the way in Mangrove Planting toward Sustainable Future

The University of Mindanao-Alumni Affairs Office successfully conducted a Mangrove Tree Planting Activity at Barangay Lasang, Davao City last January 18, 2025. Several members of UMAEA, who are also alumni of the university actively participated in this meaningful event.

To help combat environmental issues, the university spearheaded the event to promote sustainability and protect the life below water and land. As mangrove trees are pivotal in maintaining coastal ecosystems, they also serve as a natural barrier against storms and typhoons and also a great habitat for various marine species.
This campaign is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13: Climate Action – By planting mangroves, we help mitigate climate change and protect vulnerable ecosystems. SDG 15: Life on Land – Supporting the conservation and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems and SDG 14: Life Below Water – Enhancing coastal and marine biodiversity.

The event is not only aimed at reforesting coastal areas but also a call to action to strengthen the raising awareness of the significance of preserving our ecosystem. This active involvement just showed the university’s unwavering commitment to supporting environmental conservation. The success of this activity was a testament to the collective effort of the university to gradually address the growing problem of the environment.
