Fighting Hunger and Poverty: How UM’s Feeding Program Advances Global Goals

Davao City, Philippines - The University of Mindanao reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare through the Busog Lusog Feeding Program, which once again provided hot, nutritious meals to UM students on September 17, 2025.

The initiative directly supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 2: Zero Hunger, by addressing the nutritional needs of learners who attend classes without meals or have limited means to purchase food on campus. Through this effort, UM underscores its dedication to ensuring that students’ basic needs are met so they can fully focus on their academic pursuits.

The successful implementation of the program was made possible through the strong collaboration of the College Student Government units, UM ROTC cadets, the Alumni Affairs Office, and the UM Alumni Affairs Association, Inc., who volunteered in the food distribution. UM extends its appreciation to the City Government of Davao for donating additional food supplies, enabling the program to reach even more beneficiaries. Above all, UM acknowledges the unwavering support of University President Dr. Guillermo P. Torres Jr., whose leadership continues to strengthen initiatives that promote student well-being and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive future.

This spirit of cooperation embodies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, showcasing how different sectors of the UM community work hand-in-hand to uplift student welfare.
