CHSE Faculty Member Wins First Place in Poster Exhibit Competition at the 15th Health R&D Expo in Davao City

Davao City, Philippines - The University of Mindanao UM once again celebrates excellence in research as Ms. Hyacinth Mae M. Ang, RMT, faculty member from the College of Health Sciences Education (CHSE), claimed First Place in the Graduate Category of the Poster Exhibit Competition during the 15th Health Research and Development (R&D) Expo held at the Apo View Hotel, Davao City.
Ms. Ang, who currently serves as the BSMT/MLS Internship Coordinator, earned the top recognition for her master’s thesis titled “Prevalence of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Among Persons Deprived of Liberty at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Davao del Sur.” Her research highlights the pressing health challenges in correctional facilities and contributes valuable insights into public health and epidemiological research in the region.

The Health R&D Expo, organized by the Regional Health Research and Development Consortium XI (RHRDC XI) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Health (DOH) Region XI), carried the theme “From Code to Cure: Advancing Public Health through Genomics, AI-Driven Tools, and Evidence-Based Practice.”
Ms. Ang’s achievement highlights UM’s strong dedication to research excellence, health innovation, and community impact. Her success reflects the university’s dedication to advancing the UN SDGs, particularly SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4 - Quality Education, and SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals by promoting collaborative research initiatives and partnerships that strengthen evidence-based solutions in healthcare.
Through faculty-led innovations such as this, the University of Mindanao continues to empower educators and researchers who drive progress in health sciences, social responsibility, and sustainable development across Mindanao and beyond.
