Attending AUAP Global Citizenship Congress, UM Advances Quality Education and International Partnerships

Davao City, Philippines - Executives of the University of Mindanao attended the Global Citizenship Congress organized by the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) from November 11–13, 2025, at the Amari Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

The UM delegation was led by President and CEO Dr. Guillermo P. Torres, Jr., who previously served as a member of the AUAP Executive Board, and included Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Edgardo O. Castillo, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ronnie V. Amorado, and Vice President for International Affairs Dr. Reynaldo C. Castro.

This year’s Congress featured topics such as Global Citizenship and Sustainable Action, University Impact Rankings, Sustainability Rankings, Inventive Universities, and Education Resilience in a Disruptive World, among others. The discussions provided UM leaders with insights on advancing SDG 4 - Quality Education, by ensuring inclusive and equitable education and fostering lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The Congress also emphasized the importance of international collaboration, aligning with SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals, as educators and institutions from across the Asia-Pacific region explored ways to strengthen cross-border partnerships to address global challenges in higher education.

The AUAP is an international association of higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, bringing together educators to collectively discuss and address issues that affect universities and promote sustainable development through education and partnerships.
