57 Engineering Students Embark On An International Educational Tour

The UM College of Engineering Education’s (CEE) Electrical and Mechanical Engineering programs conducted their first-ever international field trip in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 18 to 23 this year.

A total of 57 students from the two programs joined the tour and were accompanied by three faculty members, Engr. Delan S. Bacus and Engr. Renzal D. Jamad from the Mechanical Engineering program, and Engr. Jifford Hernan from the Electrical Engineering program.

This international field trip consists of industry visits at Thailand’s production companies and a campus tour at one of UM’s partner schools. During the first day, the team visited the Ichitan Group Co., Ltd., a Thai beverage company that manufactures green tea drinks, herbal drinks, fruit drinks, and energy drinks. They witnessed the production of  Green Tea Honey Lemon, which produces about 6 billion bottles per year.

The team had a campus tour at King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi (KMUTT), where they benchmarked the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Laboratories department. The two programs went to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The engineering team also visited the Yakult Industry in Ayutthaya, Thailand.

International field trips open doors to real-world learning, enriching students’ professional exposure and equipping them with global insights essential to thriving in their chosen fields. These experiences not only deepen academic understanding but also build cultural competence and networks that are vital for future career success, aligning with SDG 4 - Quality Education by promoting inclusive and equitable quality education, and SDG 17 - Partnerships to Achieve the Goal, through international collaborations and partnerships that enhance educational and professional development opportunities.
